Kyabram resides on the lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung; and Yorta Yorta people.  The name of the town is believed to originate from a First Nations word Kiambram meaning Thick Forest.  A community garden located within W.J Wood Reserve on Lake Road contains a collection of lovely murals and sculptures including the wonderful platypus sculpture by Mark Niglia.
