Platypus visits Sub base Platypus
Sub Base Platypus is located within Neutral bay NSW Australia and can be accessed by ferry dropping off at the north Sydney wharf. Historically the sub base platypus was commissioned in 1967 as the base for the Royal Australian Navy’s Oberon-class submarines and other visiting submarines. The site was named HMAS Platypus, and provided the headquarters and communications base for the Australian Submarine Squadron. It operated until the the late 1990s as it was unsuitable to house newer submarines. In 2005 the Habour Trust an organisation which protects historic locations purchased the property and began restoring it as a public place for people to visit and take in the the history of the site, as well as cafes and a playground are there too. It is a lovely place to view the habour and learn about past history too.
Below is footage I filmed during my visit to Sub base Platypus
