Penny Lane Platypus

Poodling my way through the puddles and overcast weather I found some sunshine in the form of platypus art. My journey took me to Ultimo New South Wales Australia. Ultimo is within the heart of the CBD of Sydney and on Gadigal land. My reason to travel to Ultimo was to see the wonderful nature inspired mural on Penny Lane Bar and Cafe located within UTS between buildings 10 and 11, Level 1/81-117 Broadway, Ultimo.  The bar although its called Penny Lane has noting to do with the Beatles other than the mural there is quite magical. Unfortunately the bar was closed at the moment as the campus must still have classes online instead of on campus but I was able to get a photo of the lovely street art decorated at the entrance of the Penny Lane Bar and Cafe. The beautiful murals were created by Ox King aka Steven Nuttal inspired by the Australian Rain-forest you can hear more of the process of creating the mural here Ox King. The mural features Australian flora and fauna including a platypus and echidna. As the place was closed I couldn't get many photos but will return later to take more below are some photos I could take from the the outside of the lane.

Other artworks I found on my way walking from Central train station to the UTS Penny lane bar and cafe were the cool fountain called Aqua Helix created by Terrence Plowright in 2001. I also spotted a lovely colourful decorated traffic signal box across from the Railway Square bus station.

Traffic signal box cool decoration located near Railway Square Sydney (artist unknown)

The Central railway station are doing upgrades and along the construction walls they put up are old photographs from the archives showing people at Central station some of the photos are quite old including the 1937 photo below of a man and his dog.

I'd recommend checking out the mural at Penny Lane Bar and Cafe when it re-opens as well as admiring the old photos printed on the walls at Central railway too.

Check out some more footage from my day out here too in the video below
