Curious Platypus

Embarking on my platypus art journey again I travelled to Newcastle New South Wales. Newcastle is a coastal town and around a 3 hour drive from Sydney. Newcastle is located within Awabakal land. My Reason for travelling was to see the amazing light festival Illuminate put on by the creative team at Curious Legends. Curious legends was started in 2005 and they are a theatre based group providing illuminated puppets, multimedia displays, traditional theatre, and large-scale site-specific work all around Australia and the globe.  Illuminate was held on July 16th and featured amazing large scale lantern type puppets and roving performers. The roving performers known as bush clowns features costumes of Australian animals such as platypus, emu, kookaburra, green and gold bell frog, Koala and black cockatoo.

There was also light up sculptures including pelican and stingray.

Illuminate was a fun night full of visual delights and sounds. Check out this link for more information of Curious legends.

While in Newcastle I visited the Nobbys head lighthouse located at Nobby head, it was build in 1854 and is still in operation today.

Another lovely building is Customs House (now Customs House Hotel) built in 1877 by architect James Barnet, in 1877.

I also saw these cool children's play equipment of a carpet python and green and gold bell frog.

Newcastle is a great place to visit check out my video below of more footage from Curious Legends event Illuminate.
