My next platypus adventure took me to the Central Coast town of Somersby, New South Wales Australia. Somersby is located in Darkinjung Country. My reason for visiting Somersby was to see the murals at The Australian Reptile Park which feature a platypus. Check out Australian Public tArt blog post here on the cool big things found at the park too. The mural is located in the picnic area beside the Hard Croc cafe and it features the lifecycle of a frog, a pig-nose turtle, eastern long neck turtle, frogs and a platypus. A Giant mosiac green and gold bell frog and dragon flies are the centerpiece of the artwork.
The second platypus mural is located around the children's playground area. This features colourful bright pop art style Australian animals.
The park features a range of animals not only reptile but amphibians, mammals and birds. Check out this link to more information. There is also a platypusary that houses Pete the platypus that was very cute.
I also saw the baby komodo dragons that were born to parents Kracken (father) and Daenerys (mother) they were only 6 months old and were super cute. Sam the reptile keeper who showed me them as part of my animal encounter experience was friendly and very informative about these amazing animals.
I would highly recommend the baby komodo dragon encounter experience as it is great to see these wonderful animals up close. Below are a few more animal highlights from my trip.
