Beautiful day at Bacchus Marsh
The God of Revelry and Wine
I visited the town of Bacchus Marsh (Traditional name: Pullerbopulloke in Wathaurong language) located around 50 km North West of Melbourne Victoria. Bacchus Marsh is located on the border of Woiwurrung and Wathaurong country. The town of Bacchus Marsh wasn't named after the Roman God Bacchus (God of revelry and wine), but rather after colonial settler Captain William Henry Bacchus. The area is well known for agricultural produce and the Werribee River runs through the town. There is a local volunteer group called the Bacchus Marsh Platypus Alliance that help monitor the river and protect it's home for the platypus. Find out more about their work here.
A chance of luck
While on the way to photograph the newly painted platypus mural on Bacchus Marsh Aquatic Centre located at 55 Grant Street, we saw the artist Lukas Kasper painting a new mural in Hosier Lane in Melbourne. It was quite surreal to be on the way to see a mural painted by him and than get a surprise of seeing him paint a new mural. This was quite a treat and a highlight to the Melbourne trip. The mural Lukas painted at Bacchus Marsh was inspired by wildlife in the area including the platypus, Bacchus Marsh Wattle, Growling Grass Frog, Purple Crowned Lorikeet, Spotted Pardalote, Damselfly and River Red Gum. The mural is part of the platypus art trail that will include more artworks around Bacchus Marsh to promote the area.

Final thoughts
I enjoyed Bacchus Marsh and I love that they are creating a Platypus art trail to celebrate the platypus that resides in the Werribee River and Lerderderg River so I will definitely be back.
Great day - loved how we saw Lukas in action just that day we were visiting his piece at Bacchus Marsh :-)
