Here Comes the Sunshine

Little Ray of Sunshine

Sunshine is located 13km West of Melbourne Victoria. I had heard of the town Sunshine and thought it must be nice to live in a town with a name like that, although I think I'd like to live in Wombat too (a small South West town in New South Wales).  Sunshine resides within Wurundjeri Country. Sunshine has a diverse mix of cultures and was nice to see the streets filled with a delicious mix of food ranging from Middle East to South East Asian.

Mural with a message

A lovely mural is featured at Bennet Place it was commissioned by Melbourne water to promote anti littering and the protection of the local water ways around Sunshine including the Kororoit Creek and Stony Creek. The mural was created by artist Kathy Holowko. It depicts colourful and bright animals found around the waterways including platypus, superb fairy wren, white faced heron, honey eater, king fisher, frogs and fish.

 Another Environment protection mural

A beautiful mural on the side of a building across from the station near City place features another positive message to protect the local waterways from rubbish. It depicts a New Holland Honeyeater, frog, white faced heron. The mural was created by Sebastian Fransz and A.J Tan (AJ47) (2019).

Nature Murals

More beautiful murals featuring the fauna around Sunshine are located in the railway underpass. It features turtles, frog, wasp, bees, wattle bird and significant historical references to the town. The mural looks similar style to the artwork near Werribee station (Click here to see that mural), the mural was created by METI, DINO, Jaz, Sebastian Fransz and A.J and Dash 88 (2018).

Cow Man

A fantastic sculpture of a man lifting an abstract style cow is located on Hampshire Road. The sculpture was created by International artist John Kelly who grew up in Sunshine. The artwork is a homage to the Australian artist William Dobell's 1943 controversial portrait of Joshua Smith, which featured an elongated neck.

Final thoughts

Sunshine was a delightful place and a lovely mix of cultures and art.
