On the Fringe
Fitzroy is an inner city suburb of Melbourne located around 3km from the CBD. Fitzroy is known for it's art and culture and is where the annual Melbourne Fringe Festival is held. It's a festival that promotes, music, art, theatre and comedy. Fitzroy is on Wurundjeri land and the Yarra River (Known as Birrarung in Wurundjeri language) is significant to the Wurudjeri people.

SMOE and Welin
Another stunning mural is on the side of the Johnson St Veterinary Clinic on the side of the building on George street. The artwork was done by Italian artist SMOE and Danish artist Welin and features platypus, lace monitor and a red tailed black cockatoo (2018).
Final thoughts
Fitzroy reminded me of Newtown in Sydney a bit, It had a lot of cool shops and a variety of food options. I didn't get to explore it that much so would definitely like to go back and search for more street art and do some shopping.
That mural with the platypuses is amazing, the monitor lizard looks ace too. That Fringe Festival sounds good, would be cool to visit. I got good memories of the one in Edinburgh :)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, I hope you can visit Edinburgh Fringe again
