Carefree in Coburg

Merri Coburg

Coburg is located 8 km North of Melbourne Victoria's CBD. Coburg is located on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri people. Merri Creek flows through the town and was a sacred place for the Wurundjeri people. Three murals are along the walls near 123 Cole Crescent just before the entry to the Harding Street Bridge which is over the Merri Creek. The murals were created by Jimmy Dvate (2020) and feature local fauna found in the area, the Golden Sun Moth, Platypus, Sacred Kingfisher and Growling Grass Frog. The murals are part of the RenuWall Collaborative Graffiti Intervention project.

 Platypus with Sugar on Top

Another lovely mural is located at 203 Nicholson street on the corner of Bell street. It was created by Alex Sugar who is known for for his large scale nature based murals.  It features a Scarlet Robin, platypus, Nankeen Night-heron, Common starling, Growling Grass Frog and the Imperial hairstreak butterfly. It's lovely to see art within the CBD.

Final Thoughts

Coburg is a lovely place, I didn't have much time to explore but I'd like to go back and check out the Coburg Lake. I like how the local council is adding more street art to renew the city.
