Wildlife in Whitlam
Wise Whitlam
Whitlam is a developing suburb in the breathtaking Molonglo Valley within the Australian Capital Territory, Australia. Whitlam is on Ngunnawal Country. Whitlam was named after the former Australian Prime minister Gough Whitlam who is known for bringing in a number of social reforms including the government funded healthcare system Medicare, he doubled the budget for the Arts, abolished university fees, introduced self-determination for First Nations and encouraged multiculturalism by ending the white Australia policy in 1973.
Animals that call Whitlam Home
Whitlam resides within the Molonglo Valley and besides the Molonglo River. Beautiful murals were created on Icon water boxes along Maymuru Way in Whitlam. They depict animals and flowers such as the Golden Sun Moth, Perunga Grasshopper, Earless Dragon, Murray Cod, Platypus and the Hoary Sunray wildflower, which are found within the Molonglo Valley. They were created by Canberra artist Bohie and promote an anti litter message and protection of the environment.
Final thoughts
Whitlam is still a developing suburb so it will be nice to go back in a year to see the progress but I liked the use of green space there and that it is a cat containment suburb (meaning that cat owners must keep there cats inside to protect the native fauna of the area).
that's a great design on these water boxes, nice shots!
