Enlightened in Eumundi
Ngumundi
Eumundi is a small rural town located on the Sunshine coast of Queensland Australia. Eumundi is believed to be named after the Australian First Nations clan leader by the name of Ngumundi or Huomundy who was belonged to the Kabi Kabi clan. Eumundi resides on the land of the Kabi Kabi ( also known as or Gubbi Gubbi) people. It is known for it's famous Eumundi markets which is a treasure trove of local art, produce and music. I travelled with coast to hinterland tour company to Eumundi markets and highly recommend them, check out there tours here. Read more about the history of the town here.
Caplick Way Underpass Tunnel
Located within the Dick Caplick park along Caplick Way is a pedestrian underpass, that is decorated with lovely murals. One of the murals was created by local artist Claire Mathews aka Fuzeillear and features local fauna found around the region. The mural was painted as part of the Horizon Art festival.
More street art can be found through out the tunnel too here is a link to a street art trail of the town.
John Murray Murals
Mort John Murray is a well known for his iconic emu and other Australian animal caricature designs. Three murals of his feature within the town, two are located outside Berkelouw Cafe and The Bake House alley these were created with assistance from Vicki Murray. The third mural is located along side the Eumundi Brewery bottle shop and features three dogs.
Betsy the piano
A lovely street piano located along Memorial drive created by artist Rene McGovern, which promotes people to play the piano as part of the creative street art community.
Imperial Hotel
The imperial hotel on Memorial street is decorated with a selection of lovely artworks and a must visit when in town. I'm unsure of the artist's by some local artist's are Rene McGovern, Jane Welsh, Merryn Apma Daley, David Suters, Alicia Murphy and Melissa Cambon.
Public sculptures
There are a few public sculptures located around the town, including the For you sculpture by local artist Meg Geer (2018) featuring a figure of a young girl holding and surrounded by poppies. The artwork is dedicated to those who have lived through the horrors of war. Another sculpture is the Giraffe all the way from Kenya and placed in Eumundi Square.
