Monotremes at Mole Creek

Duck Mole

Mole Creek is located along the upper Mersey Valley within the Central North of Tasmania Australia. Mole Creek resides on the land of the Tommeginne people  and  Pallittorre people the traditional owners of the land. The area is know for it's honey production and you can visit the Melita Honey Farm at Chudliegh (just outside Mole Creek).

Tassie Tiger Country

Mole Creek use to be known as Tassie Tiger country as they roamed around there sadly the Tassie Tiger ( Thylacine) was offically labelled extinct in 1982. The Mole Creek Hotel is decorated with Tassie Tigers art and statues and has a Tassie Tiger Bar.

Trowunna Wildlife Park

A wonderful animal sanctuary is located in Mole Creek it is a breeding facility for Tasmanian devils and the eastern quoll two critically endangered animals. It also aims in reintroducing animals back into the wild. There is a also a large Tasmanian devil outside the park.

Platypus sculpture

A lovely platypus sculpture is outside the entrance to the Mole Creek cabins beside the wildlife sanctuary.

Tulampanga

Within Mole Creek is a lovely trail walk to the lookout of  Tulampanga (Local First Nations word) for the Alum Cliffs, along the track you can see wallabies and echidnas too.

King Solomon Caves

King Solomons caves are a Karst Limestone cave system located in the Mole Creek area. The caves were discovered in 1906 and opened for tours in 1908. The pictures really don't do the cave justice on how beautiful they are. Daily tours are run most days of the week for more information check out this link.

Transport

Discover Tasmania tours is a great option if you dont drive, they offer private and group tours to Trowunna Wildlife Park and the caves. The owner is friendly and has great history and knowledge of the area.

Final Thoughts

Mole Creek was a wonderful place to visit a day tour was definately not enough to see the beauty of the place I will be sure to go back there sometime in the future and maybe spot a Tassie Tiger.
